Early summer is a bumper time for my friends’ birthdays – I have at least 10 dates in the diary between mid-May and late June! May the sun shine on your special days! Two of my besties celebrate at this time of year – Char and Alex.
Well, I’m not sure Char would want me calling her that. Not after I share this fetching picture of her with the world, but hey. In my defence, this is not the worst picture! :D
Char and I were in our friend Anna’s beautiful shop Oh! You Pretty Things! a few weeks back when an old piece of glass caught her eye. Char loves anything to do with Dia de los Muertos, and we both thought the piece of glass was somewhat sugar-skull shaped! She requested a craft project to be made of it, which has become part of her birthday present.
This was a really fun project to do! I used Pebeo Vitrea glass paints, which are easy to blend into different colours, and simply need baking at 140C in the oven to set.
Alex loves vintage style and I found a beautiful belt which she would love. However, I still wanted to make at least something! Therefore, the event called for a hand-embroidered birthday card.
For this, I lightly sketched out a birthday cake on the card, and then punched holes at regular intervals into the image. I then erased the pencil drawing and carefully embroidered the image, using a small amount of sticky tape on the back to hold the threads in place.
Et voila. Happy birthday ladies! xxc
